More about the sector

Waste management

The waste management sector covers the collection, transport, processing or disposal, management and control of waste materials.

The term "waste management" generally refers to materials produced by human activity, with the process generally carried out to reduce their impact on health, the environment or aesthetics. Waste management is a separate practice from resource recovery that focuses on slowing the rate of consumption of natural resources. All waste, whether solid, liquid, gaseous, or radioactive, is referred for consideration by waste management.

This sector includes all representatives of waste recovery organisations as well as all persons holding documents to carry out waste activities. Representatives of institutions whose activities are related to waste management at both local and national level also contribute indirectly to this sector.
