As one of the most significant problems that the members of the Council highlighted was the commercial status of the hospital care institutions with dominant participation of the state, which in turn leads to inefficient ways of financing them.
A member of the council present at the meeting explained to the project management team how, when there are sufficient funds in the District Health Funds, especially in small settlements, hospitals are being closed due to lack of patients and therefore lack of funding. Thus, doctors working locally are not able to earn enough money, even for their own salaries, hospitals are closed and the few remaining people in the border municipalities do not have access to hospital care.
The members of the sector council present at the meeting, together with the project management team, decided to organize a roundtable between representatives of the NHIF, local authorities, doctors and patient, in order to initiate legislative changes and health reform to take place in a way that will be beneficial for all concerned.
